Out of the five competitors Ondřej Synek invited to his farewell 500m exhibition race on Sunday, the first to arrive in Račice was the 43-year-old New Zealander Mahé Drysdale. Right after lunch he and his rival, now more of a friend, had a Pilsner beer. Both have five World Championships titles in their collection, Drysdale also has Olympic gold from London and Rio.

Morning hours were devoted to the last training and practice starts. The weather was not very kind. Despite this, nearly 700 kids gathered to wrap up the year-long competition and compete for victory in the team race on Concept 2. At the end of the day, adult athletes from different professions competed in an identical race. The project filled the whole of Račice and created a great pre-race atmosphere.

Following the last race of the 2022 World Rowing Championships there will be a tribute to Czech rowing legend Ondrej Synek.Three-time Olympic medallist and five-time World Rowing Champion in the men’s single sculls, Synek has arguably been one of the most successful Czech rowers of all time. He retired last year after announcing he will not compete at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Throughout the year, and particularly during the championships, fans will notice that, in addition to the Czech flag, the Czech team jerseys are decorated with the logo of the Good Angel Foundation, with which the Czech Rowing Association has established cooperation thanks to Ondřej Vlček, director of the Czech software company Avast. Avast became the general partner of the association and donated the media space associated with this cooperation to the foundation.

The World Rowing Championships will be accompanied by a special event focusing on contemporary art. From 18 to 25 September,
a temporary gallery will be set up right in the Račice area, where the exhibition ROW ROW ROW RAČICE with international representation will take place, focusing on rowing-inspired art. The exhibition is created thanks to the cooperation of the National Olympic Water Sports Centre, the Czech Rowing Association and the platform Sport in Art.
